Yesterday, I went to Owen's house for his home visit with Ms.Wolf. We had a great time and got to listen to Owen play one of his songs on the drums. Owen and his brothers have their very own band. Thank you, Sexton family for inviting us into your home! It was a blast!

MLK Egg Activity
Today, we discussed and learned about Martin Luther King Jr. We did an egg experiment in class. We got a carton of white and brown eggs. We investigated the eggs for differences and talked about how they were similar as well. We talked about how the inside of the egg may look, although we had only seen the outside. We discussed that people are all different on the outside by appearance We broke each egg into a separate bowl and discussed the inside of the egg. We discovered that although the eggs were different on the outside they were the same on the inside, just like us!

Gingerbread & 5 Senses
This week we have been reading variations of the Gingerbread Man. It has been interesting for us to discover all the different twists in each story. Currently, we have read the original story, The Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Baby, and The Stinky Cheese Man. Along with reading these stories we have also been learning about our 5 senses.
Today, we got to use our sense of touch & smell as we played with Gingerbread Play-doh. Thank you Mrs.Stuemke & Ava for making this amazing activity for us! We can not wait to take our own small batch home tomorrow!
Although, I do not have the recipe Mrs. Stuemke used, here is one I found online if you want to make some at home.
Gingerbread Play-Dough
1 Cup flour
1/2 Cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tsp. vegetable oil
Spices--Cinnamon, Allspice, Ginger, Nutmeg
*Green and Red food coloring to make Brown (optional--the spices usually
give the dough a good Brown color.)
DIRECTIONS--
1. Mix the dry ingredients. Experiment with the spices until you get
a scent and color that you like.
2. Mix water and oil together first and then add them to the dry ingredients
and stir.
3. In a pot, cook the mixture for three to five minutes on low/medium, stirring
constantly.
4. The dough will start to pull away from the sides of the pot and
stick together in a large ball. Take the dough out of the pan when you see a VERY faint
brown skin on the dough and flip it.
5. Take the dough out of the pan and knead the dough until it becomes soft
and smooth.
6. Allow the dough to cool and then store it in an airtight container.
Total time to make dough: 10 minutes. This is a very quick and easy recipe and the dough turns out great! 1 batch makes about the same amount as you would find in one small tub of store bought playdough.
