Heres what you need:
-Sunscreen (lotion not spray)
-Black Construction Paper
-White Crayon
Procedure:
1. Fold the piece of black construction paper in half.
2. Put a VERY SMALL dab of sunscreen on one side of the paper.
3. Let your child smear the sunscreen on the half of the paper it is on.
4. With your white crayon label each side sunscreen and no sunscreen
5. Put the piece of construction paper in the sunlight for most of the day
6. After 5 hours check the piece of paper. You should be able to see that the side that has sunscreen stayed dark and kept it's color vs the side without the sunscreen. The side that did not apply sunscreen will be faded and spotted.
We did this experiment in class and after just an hour there was many white spots where the paper had faded on the side without sunscreen. The side with sunscreen kept it's color intact!
Our class discussed how sunscreen protects our skin just like it protected the paper. We also discussed how some sunlight is good for our bodies, but too much is harmful. Without sunscreen, the sun would hurt our skin. We also talked about other ways to protect our skin from the sun such as hats, clothing, shade, etc.

Gingerbread Hunt Loose in the School
On Friday, we went on a scavenger hunt throughout the school. We received a note from the office that there was a gingerbread on the loose. We followed all the clues, which lead us around different parts of the school. One of the clues was even hidden in Mr. Celik's office! Check out the video of our class on the gingerbread hunt on GSA's facebook page.

We're Baking Some Smart Cookies in Kindergarten
Our December family projects turned out wonderful! Every single gingerbread was extremely creative! I'm sure no fox could catch them with their clever disguises on.
Buddy Class Activity
Before Winter Break, our 4th grade buddy class came downstairs to do a reading activity with us. Together we read several holiday stories and talked about the story elements we found in the text.
Elf on the Shelf
Our crazy classroom elf Jewels officially left back to the north pole on December 19th! We miss her so much, but she was definitely up to no good when she was in our class.
